Lamb

Good Soil Farm Lamb is Grass-Fed

We raise our Katahdin Hair-Sheep on grass and they are never fed grain. We are currently sold out of lamb, but please join our email list if you’d like to be kept updated on when we have it back in stock.

Sheep are ruminants–this means they eat naturally grasses and pasture plants, not grain. This is why we never feed our sheep grain.

Rotational Grazing

At Good Soil Farm, we practice Management Intensive Rotational Grazing. This means that the sheep are moved every three to four days to completely new pasture.

They do not return to the same pasture for at least 30 days. This keeps the pastures healthy, allowing grass and pasture plants to regrow lushly. Because of this, our pastures are never overgrazed, which benefits both the soil and the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

This also prevents an overload of parasites that are harmful to sheep. Because of this, we are able to avoid giving our sheep routine wormer, which we believe is healthier for them and for us.
