Turkeys

*Our turkeys have always been fed a soy-free feed until the last week–it became evident that they needed more Vitamin E, so we added a local birdfeed that contained sunflower seeds (which is high in Vitamin E). However, this birdfeed also contains soybean as its last ingredient–there is only one soybean in each handful of feed! But, we want to be completely honest and transparent!

Our turkeys live outdoors, are moved to new pasture twice weekly, and are fed non-GMO, soy-free*, local feed!

Tim and Maria

Last year, Tim and Maria bought TWO of our turkeys! This is what Tim said:

“Last year, we purchased two turkeys from Good Soil Farm and were thoroughly impressed and satisfied. For context, I typically spatchcock and smoke my turkeys, and have previously purchased ‘organic’ birds from Mom’s, Whole Foods, and Whiffletree Farm.

Size and Quality: The turkeys from Good Soil Farm were substantial, likely in the 22-25lb range. They were well-muscled and had minimal fat, resulting in a moist and delicious Thanksgiving feast with plenty of leftovers.

Testing the Waters: Since it was our first time purchasing from Good Soil Farm, we bought two turkeys to ensure we had a backup plan. This turned out to be a wise decision, as both birds were excellent. We even started a new tradition of enjoying a pre-Thanksgiving meal with one of them.

Health and Flavor: One of the standout features of these turkeys was their health. After spatchcocking them, I noticed that the bones were exceptionally solid, indicating a well-nourished and active bird. I also have to say, that it was challenging to flatten these turkeys after spatchcocking due to the healthy bones AND fleshy breast meat. This is a testament to Good Soil Farm’s commitment to raising healthy poultry. The flavor was outstanding, and the meat was tender and juicy.

Overall, I highly recommend Good Soil Farm turkeys for anyone seeking high-quality, delicious poultry for their Thanksgiving celebration. After you try one you can never go back to anything else.”

Laura

Last year, Laura bought one of our turkeys, and this is what she has to say:

“We bought a turkey last year from Good Soil Farm and we cannot go back to store bought turkeys after! It was so juicy and flavorfuland we made the best gravy yetfrom it. Not only did we think it is the best turkey we have ever had, our dog validated that by sitting in the kitchen the entire time it roasted staring at the oven with those puppy dog eyes.”

Meredith

Last year, Meredith and Brendan bought one of our turkeys. They actually did not use it for Thanksgiving or Christmas, but just got it out of their freezer the other day. This is what Meredith said:

“Brendan smoked the turkey and it was delicious! We enjoyed it for many meals– from a dinner feast, to casual lunch sandwiches and more! Not to mention the incredible amount of broth I was able to make!

We would recommend!”

See How Stephen Moves the Turkeys

Farmer Stephen moves the turkeys to new pasture twice a week–this is to insure the health of the turkeys, of the pasture and soil, and of everyone who ends up eating these turkeys!

The Singing Farmer and the Turkey Chorus

We love to hear our turkeys gobble and are always trying to get them to do this on video. When Stephen was feeding them this morning, he was singing “Ode to Joy” in German and the turkeys started singing along!
