This is the best cookbook ever! No matter how much cooking experience you have, there is something you will learn from this book!
I recommend every chapter, but I want to highlight the vegetable chapter, since vegetables are what you are getting from us at the farm! The vegetables chapter starts broad by explaining various ways of preparing and cooking vegetables. Then it delves into each individual vegetable in alphabetical order. But you don’t have to read it from the beginning to get cooking—each recipe suggests the section you need to read in order to be able to cook that particular recipe so that you can actually enjoy the cooking and eating to the utmost!
There is also a great chapter on salad dressings—from simple to complex! You’ll definitely want to try the Caesar dressing recipe once the garlic comes in later this CSA season (don’t forget to pick up some farm fresh eggs from our stand when you try that recipe).
Overall, The Joy of Cooking gets five stars—if you can only have one cookbook, this is the one you should have!
Update on Joy of Cooking
There has been a new version of the Joy of Cooking published! I have not yet reviewed this, but I plan to do so this spring! However, if you want a copy of the 75th Anniversary Edition, you will have to find a used copy.
